#SantoriniBeaches #Santorinisun #Thinkingofholidays #TouringSantorini

Everyone comes to Santorini to visit the historical sites of the island and then relax on one of the many beaches on the island. The first question they ask is which it the best to go to here I have to say that  Perivolos is my first choice as you can get into the sea easily as there are very few  stones, the only warning I give to  people is the sea is great but for children the shore line is shallow and can in some parts drop suddenly into deep waters. This beach meets all ages from quiet spots to full party atmosphere beach style fun with water and beach  sports, coffee bars to tavernas and restaurants.

I can describe  Kamari and Perissia  as two similar beaches they both have spots where you can get into the sea due to  small pebbles which make it a little bit slippery  getting  into the sea  but then has a clear seabed.I have found that these two beaches are more child friendly in the amenities on and around the beaches that will keep them happy .As will the tavernas restaurants  and coffee places that cater for kids portions .      https://www.facebook.com/ammosrestaurant?fref=pb&hc_location=profile_browser

As all the coastlines of Santorini are great for snorkelling and observing the small fish below, but if you are looking to catch the big  fish then I suggest you go towards  Akrotiri in  the caldera or if in Oia try your fishing skills in Baxedes  or Amudie and kathros beach these are just a few of the places that I go to as a hobby and relaxing.

But as you all know Santorini is famous for it's sunsets and no matter where you are on the island the colour formations and now that we are in  winter and heading into spring  the clouds create fantastic memories of what makes you want to live or return again and again as so many visitors have said to me over the years.

Kamari beach santorini

This beach sits just below the ancient runes of Thira and has a feeling of
catering to family needs with it's seaside games and amenities for everyone .It has expanded from what once was a very small village of one or two houses to have a long  beach walkway of hotels ,restaurant and cafe/bars.
With it's black sand and sunbed recliners and thatched umbrellas there was a feeling of fun and an afternoon of been at the beach ,but when you go into the sea as with a lot of the coastlines of Santorini there are several small stones to walk over so it is best to wai into the sea than walking .

Kamari has the best open air cinemas on the island and is well worth checking out the movies that are showen everynight in the comfort of a lovely greek traditionalhttps://www.facebook.com/cinekamari?fref=ts

#Vlychada Santorini marina.

Yesterday i went to this marina and was surprised to see the development or should i say the amount of water traffic of catamarans that were waiting for the visitors to board and set off on their excursions of the caldera. It brought home to me that the sea as i know for it's small fishing boats of the island is slowly drifting away and the local people are taking to main land for their livelihood in shops and restaurants.

Stopping to ask permission from one young local fisherman if i could take his photograph and why we started to chat about the changes of the sea life of Santorini and as he was mending his nets for the evening catch .I asked him his opinion on tourism and why over the last few years there are less fishermen at the marina . His reply to my curiosity in tell me that the young and even his member families find to work in coffeeshops etc earned them more money and was easier.

There were some private yachts in and amongst the boats with families or friends just sitting chatting or watching the vessels coming and going under the shade of their canopies,or one or two who were returning from venturing onto the island either on a shopping trip, sightseeing or to just sample on of the local tavernas.

But there is a history of a lifestyle just perched on the hill looking over the marina that reminds me of how life use to be on Santorini one of the many tomato canning factories that stand potted around the island and unaware by visitors. But in statues as an empty shells or have been renovated into coffee shops or restaurants with spectacular views due to their easy access in the days not so long ago as a high export demand for the island

#PERIVOLOS-AGHIOS GEORGIOS -SANTORINI BEACH

There are many beaches on the island each one having it's own character and beauty, Perivolos has always been my first choice to recommend to visitors for it's easy access into the sea as there tends not to be many stones particularly  for young children .

The beach is well known for it's chill out restaurants and bars and i would recommend Ammos  restaurant for it's fish and specials of their home cooking if you have children this is an ideal place (One tip i can give visitors that i have always said in my 15 years here do what the greek people do order a few things and put in the middle of the table and share. It helps your pocket and leaves you with the chance to go somewhere in the evening ).
As do some of the other neighbouring beaches Perivolos has several water sports to meet the needs of the sporty visitors or just to hang out in the late afternoon playing volleyball with friends or joining in with other players until the sun sets .

If not that kind of activity you are looking for why not just relax in one of the lounge seatings that you can find along the seafront and  have a coffee or cool drink watching the  beach life happen on a summer's day.

Most beaches there is a charge for using their recliners and umbrellas as they are run by owners of the cafes or restaurants but you can take your own umbrellas and seating with you to the spaces that are available in some parts of the beach . With all the beaches the sea is very clean and a place of fun relaxing and a time to soak up the sun with care so make sure you wear a high factor sunscreen .
