Yesterdays sunset

The most famous meeting point in Oia ,and when you reach the top of the steps the feeling of entering
into a place of peace and quite while you sit with the local people and visitors and watch the children playing in the square .Or the priest with his son ringing the church bells just before the sunsets .

The sun sets beyond yesterday creating clouds
reminding me that spring is still here with the warmth during the day and the time to put on a light jacket or jumper to comfort you from the slight chill in the evening .

The church dome creates it's shadows of a passed

One of the mills here in Oia that were used in the 50's to produce the material to weave the traditional
carpets

The summer has started and i wish everyone a great time

The big ships came in today
and all was crazy here in Oia
some thing like the wind on
monday .I could have edited this
photo but decided not to but give
a feeling the 2000 people that came
have left to go to another island .But
i hope they took away with them some
lovely memories.
This old house still stands surrounded by lovely
hotels around it but is one of the many houses from
the 1956 of how the people lived before the development of oia .

One of the many churches in Oia and this year i
will try to learn the names of some of them, as there are so many it will take me a life's time  to learn .

Slowly slowly the island becomes a live

A day with some clouds and the first day of the cruise boats to
be welcomed to the island of santorini.
The famous green door to the calader view that takes you away into a place of peace and quite to relax and catch up on your dreams or wonder what it was like in 1956-1958 when the fishermen would be down at sea level catching their fish for the family or to sell .
The famous ST. Nickolas church taken from another angle and the most taken photograph of Oia .
View from Pirgos looking down onto exo gonia and in the distance Kamari and Santorini airport .The sloping mountain with it grapes of 2012 which in the winter have been pruned using a feridini knife in waiting for the new grapes to ripen and produce the well know wines of Santorini.

The view of the calder's colours

These were taken in 2012 on board a catamaran sailing in and around the caldera of santorini .The colours changing from minute to minute and bringing out it's own stories and history of the volcano.

The volcanic rocks that has so much vegetation hidden from those who are not aware of but at this time of year sweet asparagus, mushrooms and wild herbs that are used in the santorini traditional winter dishes.

The sunsets in the summer bring warmth and in march bring back the spring and the sounds to the island as shops and hotels freshen inside and outside
in preparation for new visitors and those who come
 back year after year .

How the local people of Cyclades use the goat !!!!

The wonders of the passed when the people of Cyclades and here on Santorini would use the skin of their goats and sheep
to make musical instruments, and can still be found today at , until the early hours of the morning .
In the passed the wine was not carried in barrels to the boats but in the bags made by the skins of the goats or sheep and transported .

From Ammoudi to Thirasia Island

A view from the small ferry boat that goes to thirasia
from Ammoudi everyday taking you to an island that is steep in the santorini traditional culture.

One of the small ports of Thirasia sheltered from the
winds in the winter, but lovely place to have a swim and
enjoy traditional seafood and local wines by the sea.

Santorini the traditional beans

Spring brings it's colours and it's traditions
when the people would go into the fields to this
rich colour of blue, and collect the bitter beans into
woven sacks and leave to soak in the sea for several days to become less bitter. Where they then would boil as a bean soup or main dish
